Atlanta Cotillion 2010

Annually, AID Atlanta hosts a unique fund raising event called the Atlanta Cotillion. Gentlemen in the gay community compete for the crown by raising money that goes toward AIDS research in the Southeast.

The gentlemen dress as debutantes by dawning elaborate gowns, makeup and heels and strut their stuff on the catwalk; but not before walking the red carpet for photo opportunities.

To a packed house, award presentations were given, goodbyes were said and a queen was crowned – all in the name of AIDS research. A worthy cause to dust off the stilettos, indeed.

Katie, my Katie

I had the pleasure of traveling to Lawrence, Kansas to photograph the lovely Katie's wedding in late July. The location: rustic. The decorations: understated and timeless. The bride: stunning.

So Fresh and So Clean...

Newborn babies are the epitome of all that is beautiful, innocent and pure. Emerson is all of that from her head to her teeny toes.

A true beauty, indeed.

Photo Booth Fun!

I've photographed many weddings and photographed many weddings that also had a photo booth. I've never set up a photo booth at one of my own events, but I was photographing my friends' wedding and she wanted a booth. I don't have the entire setup for a booth, but was able to piece together an impromptu booth. It did the job...a little ghetto, but the results were just as fun: Thanks to Jeremy and Cona, this proved to be a worthwhile venture!

A Photographic Vision: Izzy Poo

As a photographer, I'm often guilty of having a vision in my head about what I would like an upcoming event to look like. I get a lot more say about what things look like and how things go in a portrait shoot, but sometimes things don't go as I envisioned...

Izzy's mom prepared well for this photo shoot. Izzy had been fed, rested and we even played before the shooting began. Nearly the instant I pulled out the camera, she was having none of it! Screaming shots can often be more fun than the vision. Shhhh! That's our secret.

It took a little coaxing from mom, but eventually...

We got some smiles. It's not what I had in my head, but smiles are what we were after, right?

Izzy enjoyed the pinwheels and I enjoyed spending my afternoon with her and her mom. Come back again soon!

The Lovely Layla

What is it about balloons that make children smile from ear to ear? Is it the color, the way they blow in the wind or just a fascination with something that floats? No matter how you slice it, the genuine smile and happiness of childhood captured is a thing of beauty.

Smiles not required, however...

Bride Perfection...

Brides never cease to amaze me when it comes to being strong, beautiful women! I come across them frequently, and when photography begins – it's magic!

I rarely give wedding advice, but if I did, I would offer this:

Step one is to choose a photographer that works with your personality. A photographer may have a stunning portfolio, but if they are difficult to work with, there is a potential for your wedding day to be even more anxiety-filled than anticipated.

Step two is to have an idea about what you would like your photographs to look like. Did you see a photo on the photographer's website you liked? Print it out and bring it with you when you meet to sign the contract. We LOVE to know what you want.

Step three is to relax. If you're relaxed on your wedding day, your photos will reflect it. The photographer should be helpful in putting you into a relaxed state of mind and direct you. Chances are, you don't get your photo taken every day. Count on us! We're here to help!
